Etta James Passes Away at Age 73
Grammy-winner, Etta James, passed away yesterday at the age of 73. James had long suffered from leukemia, dementia, and kidney disease. After Jame’s passing, James’ manager, Lupe De Leon, stated, “it’s a tremendous loss for her fans around the world. She’ll be missed. A great American singer. Her music defied category.”
Prior to her passing, James’ two sons were involved in a court battle with James’ husband, Artis Millis, regarding conservatorship of James’ $1 million estate. For over a year now, James’ family has battled over the singer’s estate.
During her life, James was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, won Grammys for best contemporary blues album and best traditional blues album, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and received a special Grammy for lifetime achievement.
