Baby Veronica Saga Continues

Babyveronica

As I have previously discussed, biological fatherDusten Brown had been ordered by a South Carolina court to turn over BabyVeronica to her adoptive parents.

Brown and Veronica’s adoptive parents, theCapobiancos, were recently at a Nowata County court hearing in Oklahoma, theoutcome of which is unknown.  However,Brown has filed an appeal with the Oklahoma Supreme Court asking it to stop theNowata County District Court from carrying out the order.

This appeal is just another step in the legalmaze to obtain custody of Baby Veronica, who turns four this month.  The U.S. Supreme Court, three district courtsin Oklahoma, and the Cherokee Nation tribal court have already been involved inthe case.

Even if the Nowata County court decided toenforce the South Carolina court order, the Nowata County court wouldthen need approval from the tribal court on the Cherokee trust land whereVeronica currently resides with her paternal grandparents.
