Experts Recommend Making Changes To Long-Term Care Services

ABLEThere is a diverse group of policy experts who are proposing changes to long-term care. As baby boomers continue to enter into retirement and the average life expectancy continues to increase more people are going to be needing long-term care. This group of policy experts and stakeholders have “issued a report proposing major changes in the way long-term care is financed and delivered in the United States.” Included in the Long-Term Care Financing Collaborative’s report are proposals for modifying Medicaid’s long-term care benefits and creating a new catastrophic long-term care program. There are also recommendations for more private sector initiatives and reforms to improve long-term care services. Lawmakers will need to move quickly to address this issue because our population is rapidly aging and the long-term care infrastructure will need to be in place to accommodate a growing number of senior citizens who may need these services.
