Stevie Wonder In Battle Over Royalties With Widow Of Long Time Lawyer

ArticlePictureStevie Wonder is being sued by the widow of his long time attorney in federal court over royalties that are supposed to be paid to the lawyer’s heirs. The dispute comes from a clause in a contract that was negotiated years ago which reserved for the lawyer %6 of all music royalties to himself and his descendants in perpetuity. Wonder claims that he did not know what he was signing and was mislead about the true terms of the agreement which provided royalties above what was normally reserved in standard industry contracts plus included the unusual perpetuity clause. The widow is seeking $7 million plus interest as back payments, however, no court date has yet been set.
