Legal Victory Seems Like a Hollow Victory

FlagDespite all of the tax benefits that gaycouples receive in states that support gay marriage, it is still confusing tosee how to report the business income one partner receives in a state that maynot recognize gay marriage. Different CPA’s will give different answers. Thecourt did rule that states are allowed to set their own policies with regard togay marriage. The question is how the IRS will deal with the differences acrossstate lines. Now, gay couples do not know if they can exclude healthcare fromincome tax covered by employers. Without IRS rulings, most companies are nottaking any action. Instead, they are waiting for instruction before changingtheir systems. Some gay couples are upset claiming that they feel like this is a hallow victory until there are some answers to these questions.
