EU Probe Investigates Allegations of Organ Trafficking in Kosovo
A 2010 Council of Europe report names Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci twenty-seven times in connection with alleged crimes, including organ-trafficking. Mr. Thaci was the wartime political leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army, and the report alleges organs of prisoners killed by the KLA were taken and sold on the black market. In January, the EU mission in Kosovo set up a task force headed by a U.S. prosecutor to investigate the allegations.
