High Court Refuses To Force Dialysis On Woman Who Doesn’t Want To Grow Old
The High Court in Great Britain refused to force a women to undergo dialysis against her wished following a suicide attempt that left her with renal failure. The women, who remained unnamed during the proceedings, made the suicide attempt due to her wish to die young so as to avoid old age, being poor, and living in public housing. According to psychological evaluations, she suffers from narcissistic personality disorder and is unable to relate to the suffering she caused her three daughters by dying but was otherwise competent to make her own medical decisions. The women was reportedly obsessed with living a luxurious lifestyle and was often facing financial difficulties which contributed to her suicidal impulses although she was described by those that knew her as being “the life of the party.”
