The Vultures Come In
After a person dies, it is common, regrettably, for family members to swoop in like vultures and take items that belonged to the decedent without any regard for the person who is actually entitled to the item under intestate succession or the decedent’s will.
This issue was raised in a recent Hints from Heloise column presenting a letter which described the survivors as “shopping for items they could use just as if [the decedent’s] home were a grocery store.”
