Pope recognizes organ shortage but condemns sales
Pope Benedict XVI of the Catholic Church recently commented on the shortage of organs available for transplant. It has even been reported that the Pope has signed an organ donor card.
However, the Pope is against offering financial compensation to organ donors. He is quoted as saying, “buying and selling of organs * * * would go against the meaning of donation” and would be “morally illicit.”
