Pomerey Bill analyzed

Estate tax Martin M. Shenkman (Member, Martin M. Shenkman, P.C.) has written a new article entitled The Practical Planner: “Estate Tax Proposed Legislation: Analysis of Pomeroy Bill.”  Here is a summary of the article:

The article overviews some of the changes that would take effect if a new estate tax bill were passed, “Certain Estate Tax Relief Act of 2009” (H. R. 436). Some of the changes include:

  • making it permanent
  • fixing the tax rate to 45%
  • making it retroactive

The article suggests that estate plans be reevaluated in order to address the changes that could come to be.
