Connecticut Pet Trust Statute & Other Pet Trust Tips
Connecticut’s new pet trust statute, effective October 1, 2009, provides a useful estate planning tool, allowing pet owners to establish a trust for the duration of the named animal’s life and designate a trust protector to see that the pet is properly cared for.
There are other things, however, that a pet owner needs to consider, including possible corresponding adjustments in the pet owner’s will to account for the trust property (e.g. the pet) and directions for euthanasia necessitating scenarios and final disposition.
