Pre-Paid Funeral Company President Indicted for Criminal Fraud
The pre-paid funeral industry was recently shaken by an indictment alleging that the president and CFO of National Prearranged Services, Inc., a pre-paid funeral service company, committed mail fraud, money laundering, and wire fraud. The indictment alleges that the fraud cost state agencies, consumers, and funeral homes at least $600 million.
The fraud was allegedly committed by actions such as altering applications and other documents and issuing fake statements. NPS collapsed last year.
