Update on Newcomb College: Appeal Filed
I previously reported that on August 31, 2009, a district court denied the motion for summary judgment that would have forced Tulane University to reopen Newcomb College.
On October 7, 2009, “Susan Henderson Montgomery, a successor of Josephine Louise Newcomb, who endowed Tulane University’s H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College through a bequest and series of gifts, announced today that she will appeal the Civil District Court’s August 31 ruling denying her summary judgment motion that the court order Tulane to reinstate the women’s college.” The Future of Newcomb College, Appeal Announced Today, Oct. 7, 2009.
According to the organization’s website, Save Newcomb College, the appeal was filed on October 8, 2009.
Special thanks to Sue Bentch (Professor, retired, St. Mary’s University School of Law) for bringing this update to my attention.
