Opt-Out Organ Donation Law Proposed in New York
As I previously mentioned, New York (and the rest of the world) is faced with a shortage of organ donors. Currently the biggest obstacle is while 9 out of 10 people are in favor of organ donation, only 1 out of 10 people is registered as an organ donor.
In order to combat this problem, New York State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky introduced a new bill in Albany that would make all New Yorkers organ donors unless they opt out of organ donation. If passed, this law will be the first of its kind in the United States, and it will likely be challenged by religious groups and family members.

Special thanks to Weston Wright (2010 J.D. candidate, Texas Tech University) for bringing this to my attention.
