One Funeral Scammer Sentenced to Two Years in Federal Prison
Faye Shilling, 61, and Jean Crump, 68, collected nearly $1 million from lending and insurance companies by purchasing life insurance policies for nonexistent people, killing them on paper, and staging their funerals. After the funerals, the women filed bogus documents saying that the remains were cremated and scattered at sea.
Shilling pled guilty last July and was sentenced on Wednesday to a two-year federal prison term and ordered to pay approximately $330,500. Crump was convicted of mail and wire fraud and is set to be sentenced on February 7.
