The More Accurate Southern Groundhog

Punx Phil On Groundhog Day, I posted a link to Punxsutawney Phil’s website. It has recently been brought to my attention that Punxsutawney Phil’s southern counterpart, General Beauregard Lee in Lilburn, Georgia, is more accurate than Punxsutawney Phil. General Beauregard Lee has a 94% accuracy rating in the south while Punxsutawney Phil only has an 85% accuracy rating in the north. Neither groundhog saw his shadow this Groundhog Day, predicting an early spring ahead.

See Johnny Kelly, Punxsutawney Phil & General Beau Lee Fail to See Shadows; Early Spring Ahead, examiner.com, Feb. 2, 2011.

Special thanks to Mac Smith (2011 J.D. Candidate, Texas Tech University School of Law) for bringing this to my attention.
