Younger Couples Who Need Prenups

Marriage Prenuptial agreements are growing more common among younger couples. Although the conversation can be potentially awkward and it costs between $500-$2,000 to have one drafted, there are some situations when a prenup is especially worth it, including:

  • When one spouse is going back to school while the other supports the couple. In this case, a prenup can specify that the spouse who funded the education would receive reimbursement if a divorce occurred within a certain amount of time.
  • When one spouse comes into a marriage with much more debt than the other.
  • When one spouse decides to start a company while the other informally helps the business get off the ground.
  • When one spouse already has a business in the family. This affects other people, their ownership, and their finances, so a prenup is vital.
