Custom Handcrafted Coffins Available at Coffinitup.com

CoffininupOn July 16, 2011, Margaret and I had the great pleasure of visiting with two wonderful people whom we now call friends…Bryan and Dusty Schoening.  Dusty aDusty and Bryannd Bryan live in Pahrump, Nevada and run an incredible business…they make custom coffins.

First of all, it is important to distinguish between a casket and a coffin.

A casket is “[a] rigid container which is designed for the encasement of human remains and which is usually constructed of wood, metal, or like material, and ornamented and lined with fabric.”  See Florida Department of Financial Services, Caskets vs. Coffins.  Caskets are rectangular in shape with both ends being the same.

Coffin On the other hand, a coffin is “a case or receptacle for dead human remains which is anthropoid in shape. By anthropoid, it is meant that the coffin shape resembles a human being with six or eight sides” and are wide at one end to accommodate the shoulders and small at the foot end.  Id.

Bryan is a master coffin designer and maker — any wood, any design, plain and simple or ornate — where ever your imagination flies or you can let Bryan use his artistic skills and design one for you.

The craftsman ship is outstanding…check out their website at coffinitup.com which also includes urns, coffin-shaped furniture and jewelry, and various other items.

Bryan and Dusty also have a love for animals and have a pet cemetery on their property.

If you or your client is looking for that special memorial service, a custom made coffin can be part of it.  Of course, the coffins are not pre-made so advanced planning is a good idea.
