Library’s Doors Stay Open Thanks to Regular’s Bequest
Retired government employee, Elwin Scott, was a regular at the Handley Regional Library in Winchester, Virginia. Scott would volunteer at the library three to five days a week—one library employee estimates Scott volunteered close to 5,000 hours during his lifetime.
After Handley’s death the library expected to close for a week due to financial troubles, but it was soon discovered that Handley left $25,000 to the library in his will. The library did not have to close its doors thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Handley Library, the Annie Bronson Foundation, and the Clarke County Library Donors.
