The Succession of the Murdoch Family Dynasty
Vanity Fair recently published an article detailing the succession plans (and upsets) of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire. An overview of the article available on Wealth Strategies Journal’s website is posted below, in full:
If left up to Rupert Murdoch, he would remain in control of his media empire well into his nineties. It was expected that at that time the then heir apparent to News Corp, Lachlan Murdoch, would take over control. That plan changed when Lachlan, then Chief Operating Officer of News Corp in New York City, suddenly resigned from the family business and moved back to Australia. The next in line in the order of succession was James Murdoch, the fourth of Rupert’s six children. Along with his father, James is currently Chairman and CEO of News Corp. and with Rupert at 80 years old, many are wondering just how smooth the News Corp. transition from Rupert to James will be.
