If I Die: An App For the Dead
If I Die is a Facebook app that allows the user to post a final message on his facebook wall when he dies. The app lets the user to choose three “trustee” Facebook friends who will verify the user’s death. After the trustees confirm the user’s death, Facebook posts the prerecorded message, posthumously.
According to Eran Alfonta, the app’s co-founder, the app was created because “[w]e all have things to say and don’t necessarily have the audience with the patience to hear us. Actually we all want to leave something behind, we all want to leave a stamp behind us.”
Currently, the app allows a message to post on the user’s public profile, but the creators are working to allow users to send discrete messages and messages to non-Facebook users. The number of app users is expected to hit 100,000 within a couple of months.
