IRS Extends Filing Deadline

Tax-return-image-300x199The IRS announced Wednesday that it is pushing back the tax filing deadline to Tuesday, April 17, 2012. This extension gives taxpayers two extra days to file their gift and income tax returns (the extension does not affect the filing of estate tax returns as they are based on the date of death).

The IRS granted the extension because April 15 falls on a Sunday this year, and April 16 is Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington D.C. Starting on January 17, the IRS will also begin accepting returns submitted online through the agency’s e-filing system.
