Posthumous Social Media
I recently blogged about the app that allows you to update your facebook status from the grave. The trend of posthumous social media is catching on in other areas too. One site,100Memories.com allows users to set up a memorial website for free. Eran Alfonta, the creator of the facebook posthumous app, says that these services are desired because “people will want to leave a digital postcard behind to say, ‘I was here on this planet, I did some things in this world…I want my story to be told.’”
Other sites include AfterSteps.com and GreatGoodbye.com that will send posthumous emails for estate planning purposes. AssetLock.net charges less than $10 a year to store up to 20 megabytes of information and stores digital copies of documents, passwords, and final wishes. Other sites allow you to make audio recordings that can be used after your death.
