From $3 to $190,000: Man Sells Painting For Much More Than He Anticipated

Images-4An 81-year-old man bought a painting for $3 in a goodwill store in South Carolina a year and a half ago. Last week, he sold the painting for $190,000. The man, known as Leroy, bought the painting because he thought it would be worth a couple hundred if he sold it on the internet. His daughter-in-law thought it might be more valuable, so she took it to the Antiques Roadshow and got an initial appraisal of $20,000-$30,000.

The painting turned out to be a Flemish work of art from 1650 and it sold for much more than Leroy ever anticipated. Leroy will split the $190,000 with his son and daughter-in-law and he plans to use his money for home improvements.
