Food Stamp Usage Increases
About 45 million people received food stamps at some time in 2011. This means that approximately 1 in 7 people in the United States received food stamps, which amounts to a 70% increase from previous years. A vast majority of these households had a child or an elderly person living in the household. Even though these numbers seem to be high, the number of people on food stamps is expected to grow in the coming years. This means that the amount that the government will spend on this program will also increase in the coming years.
