Death and Taxes Update

IRS 2As I have previously discussed, there is a great of information and speculation about whether Congress will act to prevent the estate tax to increase dramatically at the end of 2012. Many individuals feel that the federal government uses the estate tax to steal from the recently deceased. Those individuals believe that this is the case because the estate tax forces the deceased person to move his or her assets to individuals that he or she never wanted to receive the assets. According to them, the estate tax is a tool of the government that “discourages productivity and prosperity. According to them, this makes the estate tax un-American because it works against the principal upon which this country was founded. In other words, why would a person work hard all of his life only to be told that he or she cannot decide how his or her assets will be distributed at death?
