New Bill Addresses The Control of Facebook After Owner’s Death
State House of Representatives from New Hampshire has a new bill in committee that could determine what happens to a decedent’s Facebook page after his or her death. The bill will grant control of the decedent’s Facebook account to the executor of the estate. According to Sea Coast Online, “[t]he House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing Tuesday on legislation that gives the executor or administrator of the estate the power to take control of the accounts.” The bill will give complete control, including the power to cancel or continue the account. The bill would not be limited to Facebook and would include “social networking Web sites, blogging or text and email accounts.”
