Clark County Historical Society Receives Achievement Award
The Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board (OHRAB) recently presented an achievement award to the Clark County Historical Society for their preservation of thousands of local court records. Over the past two years, 17 volunteers filed records into 8,000 acid-free folders and placed the material in 210 archival boxes.
Curatorial assistant Natalie Fritz commented that it was more interesting than they expected. They came across several entertaining cases, including a lunacy case involving a woman named Cinderella and the case of John and William Evilsizor who used dynamite to kill fish in the Mad River.
Fritz estimates that they still have another year of work to do, but a new grant will allow the historical society to focus on reboxing and taking inventory of its collection. The historical society’s work will help those doing research.
