Oldest Person in United States Passes Away Right Before Her 114th Birthday
Elsie Thompson, the oldest person in the United States, recently died at the age of 113, just a few weeks shy of her 114th birthday.
The Gerontology Research Group listed Thompson as the oldest living U.S. citizen after 114-year-old Mamie Rearden died in January.
Thompson was born in Beaver Falls, Pa. on April 5, 1899. Her husband, Ronald Thompson, was a Republican state senator in Pennsylvania and passed away in 1986.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her son, who lives in California, and four grandchildren. While living, Mrs. Thompson often attributed her long life to loving people and smiling.
