The following description is provided through the courtesy of Joe Henderson, President & General Counsel of Estate Map, LLC:
Estate Map™ is a cloud-based,supplemental estate planning tool designed to easily plug into an existing lawpractice. It moves the client intake process online, and gives clients a secureplace to store, share, and pass on important estate information. It automatescommunication between estate attorneys and their clients and representatives, building long-term relationships, expanding marketing reach, and ensuring thatestate representatives know where to turn for legal help in the event of aclient’s disability or death.
Estate Map essentially hard-codesbest practices. Where estate-planning attorneys traditionally usedone-size-fits-all paper client intake forms, Estate Map moves the entireprocess online with convenient and dynamic Q&A intake. Where attorneys havehad no better advice than “keep a list of usernames and passwords” as a stockresponse to the growing concern of digital asset management, Estate Map providesa secure database to allow clients to store and selectively share usernames andpasswords, instructions, and other information. With Estate Map, clients grant”proxies” selected access to information — immediately, on disabilityor after death. Finally, because estate planning is an ongoing process, EstateMap automates communication from the attorney — periodically reminding clientsto keep information updated and asking proxies to let the attorney know ifanything happens to the client.
Estate Map provides an even morerobust estate planning solution by also giving clients a place to addressbroader estate concerns such as funeral planning, the location of tangibleproperty, beneficiary designations on existing accounts, notes to loved ones, specificinstructions for asset treatment and distribution, and even a repository forimportant documents, photos and videos. Estate Map gives the client a unifiedestate planning experience by allowing the estate attorney to easily replacethe Estate Map branding with the attorney’s own law firm information.
