New Medicare Trust Fund Forecast More Optimistic

Medical_symbol

In an annual assessment ofSocial Security and Medicare trust funds, the Medicare Board of Trustees hasprojected “that the Medicare hospital insurance trust fund will remain solventuntil 2026, which is two years later than forecast last year.”

This new outlook isdue to lower-than-expected 2012 Medicare Part A spending as well as lowerprojected costs for Medicare Advantage. However, the Board does admit any projections are inherently uncertaindue to factors like Congressional action and Affordable Care Act implications.
