Bill Signing Sheds Hope for the Inclusion of Digital Assets in Law
As I have previously discussed, the law currently lagsbehind technology when it comes to digital assets.
In the months following Eric Rash’s suicide in 2011, hisparents were denied access to their son’s Facebook account as they desperatelysearched for answers.
But recently Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell invited theparents of Eric Rash to witness him sign legislation guaranteeing parents theright to access a child’s digital assets following the death of the child.
The legislation will give parents and legal guardiansrights to deceased minor’s social media accounts by adding digital assets toVirginia’s probate laws.
