Englishman’s Plan for Good Death Raises Awareness for Right to Die
After being diagnosed with motor neuron disease three yearsago, Paul Chamberlain has recently made the necessary preparations to end hisown life due to the law currently forbidding assisted suicide.
Motor neuron disease is a progressive and terminal illnessthat slowly deteriorates muscles. Theimpossibly cheerful Chamberlain says he does not plan to waste away during thelast few months of his life and has obtained drugs from overseas he hopes willdo the job.
Along with the organization Dignity in Dying, Chamberlainsupports a recent bill proposed by Lord Falconer to legalize assisted dying insome cases. Chamberlain “says that inthe Netherlands, Belgium, and the state of Oregon in the US, where there areassisted dying laws, there has been no evidence of abuse.”
Chamberlain explains that he has had a good life and wantsto be sure he can also have a good death.
