Levi Strauss Heir Afraid of New Genes
An heir to the Levi Strauss fortune was recently sued by awoman he allegedly promised to pay $300,000 to abort their child and then neverpaid.
After dating heir Daniel S. Haas for over a year, ChristinaA. Helm discovered she was pregnant at the age of 45. Helm claims Haas was under extreme pressurefrom his family to end their relationship and the pregnancy. In her complaint, Helm stated Haas would doanything to silence the pregnancy after realizing a child meant much explainingto the family, possible marriage, the end of extended vacations, jeopardizinghis family’s community stature, the beginning of a public relations fallout,and “finally having to grow up.” Helmalleges she was bullied into accepting their offer to terminate the pregnancy afterthreats of an “endless custody battle.”
Helm claims Haas never had any present intent to pay her the$300,000 plus $7,500 for her attorney’s fees related to a paternity action. Helm seeks medical expenses, compensatorydamages of $307,500, and punitive damages.
