Family Sues Hospital Following Botched Kidney Transplant

Sarah A. Fudacz, 24, was supposed to receive her youngerbrother’s kidney, which was considered a perfect match, during a 2012transplant surgery.  Unfortunately, afterher brother’s kidney was removed, a nurse inadvertently disposed of it. 

Now, the family is suing the University of Toledo MedicalCenter, seeking damages for the loss of the perfect kidney and the sufferingSarah’s brother underwent during the risky surgery.  The hospital, which temporarily suspendedlive-donor kidney transplants, hopes this incident will improve health carequality and patient safety.
