Murdering Mother Seeks Portion of Her Slain Children’s Estates
In 2008, Leatrice Brewerdrowned her three children and then attempted suicide. She has since remained in a psychiatricfacility in upstate New York.
Brewer now seeks a portionof the wrongful-death settlements paid to the children’s estates by NassauCounty. The father of two of thechildren, Innocent Demesyeux, settled with the county last year for $250,000after claiming social service caseworkers could have done more to save thechildren. The estate of the third childreceived $100,000 in a settlement.
Even if Brewer were to receivea portion of these settlements, the money would go to the $1.2 million lien thestate holds on her assets. Demesyuex is adamantthat Brewer should not get a share and his lawyer is confident the killer won’tprofit from her crimes.
