Despite state law D. Bruce, 66, hasdecided to grant same sex marriage licenses. Known as a rebel in MontgomeryCounty, he was elected Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans Court in 2007,which marked his first year. Additionally, he was the first democratic clerk andwon reelection in 2011. He is also a veteran. Hanes did not comment after thesuit filed against him. He claims, “I’m getting a lot of positivefeedback. The bad stuff, I really don’t pay that much attention to it; it’s asituation where people have a right to express themselves. I just think it’simportant for people to know that I’m not doing anything based upon my opinion;I think it’s an equal privilege issue.” The writ against him claims Bruce is”causing harm to the public.”
