Beware of Nursing Home Trust Fund Theft
A USAToday investigation found that over 100 cases of theft from nursing home trustfunds have been prosecuted since 2010. In many cases, the nursing home bookkeepers and office managers taskedwith handling trust funds and managing expenses were the main culprits.
Theinvestigation discovered just how easy it is for administrators to get awaywith this crime. Most states have noaudit requirements or criminal background checks.
Mandatorybackground checks could help solve this problem, but for now, the loved ones ofnursing home residents should monitor monthly statements from the facility andcheck actual receipts for purchases made.
