Book on Transgender Persons and the Law

TransAlly Windsor Howell recently published a book entitled, Transgender Persons and the Law, (July 2013). Provided below is a description of the book from ABA:

To paraphrase American playwright, performer, feminist, and activist Eve Ensler, transgender persons are immigrants into the world (read culture) of women and men. And immigrants are always hated, mistreated, and not appreciated when they first arrive.

This straightforward and informative groundbreaking book is intended to educate and inform practitioners on the various laws and landmark court cases involving transgendered individuals in a number of legal situations, including:

  • housing
  • military service and veterans benefits
  • family law
  • education
  • health care
  • personal safety
  • employment
  • immigration
  • criminal justice

It also discusses the myriad legal documents transgendered persons need to understand before filling out paperwork in order to change one s name, birth certificate, and gender identification.

Finally, this book includes a DVD containing a complete set of forms for all 50 states and the District of Columbia for name changes and, for those jurisdictions that allow it, birth certificate changes.
