Gov. Christie Withdraws Appeal

Christie2

As I have previously discussed, Governor Chris Christierecently appealed a court decision allowing same-sex marriage in NewJersey.  Gov. Christie has now withdrawnhis appeal after the state’s Supreme Court rejected his attempt to preventmarriages until the appeal was resolved.

Christie’s decision has effectively removed the last hurdleto legalizing same-sex marriage in New Jersey. New Jersey has now joined thirteen other states and the District ofColumbia in allowing same-sex marriages.

The New Jersey Supreme Court unanimously decided to denyChristie’s request for a stay on marriages and said in its decision that his appeal had no “reasonable probability of success.”  A Christie aide said continuing with theappeal would be “a fool’s errand.”
