Surgeon Regrows Severed Finger
Delray Beach surgeon Dr. Eugenio Rodriguez regrew a man’ssevered fingertip by applying a daily dose of pulverized pig bladder to thestump.
The tip of Paul Halbern’s index finger, which had been bitoff by a horse, grew back within three months, without the use of surgery, stitches, or anesthesia. Rodriguez useda pig’s “extracellular matrix” to accomplish this feat and is now preparing apossible clinical research trial to use this material on compound fractures, one of the trauma field’s most difficult cases.
