Advances in medical researchand technology will likely result in children with developmental disabilitiesof all kinds living into adulthood.  As aresult, practitioners must be able to plan for adult children with specialneeds when clients seek advice on how to ensure their children are cared for ona long-term basis.  This article providesan overview on using special needs trusts as well as other planning techniquesand considerations such as retirement plans, life insurance, the selection ofcaretakers, and nonbinding statements of wishes.
