Legal Battle Over Malcolm X Diary Publishing Rights
Third World Press, a Chicago company, has scheduled topublish Malcolm X’s diaries as soon as next week. Malcolm’s heirs caught windof this plan and have gone to court for an injunction preventing thepublication. X Legacy, an entity created by Malcolm X’s heirs to protect hisestate, asserts that publication rights belong to them. A vice presidentfrom Third World Press told the Daily News Company that Third Worldactually holds the publishing rights to the diaries. Currently, the diaries areat the New York Public Library. X Legacy filed papers in Manhattan federal court.
