Maharaja Settles Inheritance Feud

One of India’s wealthiest and most important families, theGaekwads of Baroda, have finally settled a 23-year-long dispute over anestimated fortune of £3billion. 

Afterthe 1998 death of Maharaja Fetehsinghrao Gaekwad, his younger brotherRanjitsinh succeeded him but another brother, Sangramsinh, claimed he wasentitled to a half share of the estate.  Ranjitsinh’sheir, Maharaja Samarjitsinh Gaekwad, launched negotiations to settle the lengthydispute.  Under the settlement, the new Maharaja of Baroda willretain the lion’s share of the estate, which includes one of the country’s mostluxurious palaces, the imposing Laxmi Vilas Palace.
