Oklahoma Passes New Law To Curb Elder Abuse
Oklahoma recently passed a law to permit cameras in the rooms of long- term care residents so long as consent forms are collected from the facility. The law was a result of public outcry after a secret camera in a nursing home caught elder abuse.
Doris Racher put a camera in her 96-year-old mother Erytha Mayberry’s room. The footage revealed an assistant ridiculing Mayberry and stuffing her mouth with gloves. Currently, only three states including Oklahoma have laws allowing cameras in nursing home rooms.
