Judge Willing to Consider Shorter Sentence

Johnwise

John Edward Wise, 68, was convicted for fatally shooting his wife while she was in intensive care at General Medical Center in Massillon, Ohio.  Wise pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, saying he wanted to end his wife’s suffering.

The jury convicted Wise for aggravated murder with a mandatory, minimum sentence of 23 years.  However, the Summit County Assistant Prosecutor said this sentence “would be unduly harsh based upon the unique circumstances of this case.”  The judge said a proposed six-year sentence would be “commensurate with the act.”
