U.S. Judge Rules Utah’s Ban on Same-Sex Marriage Unconstitutional

Utah

A federal judge has ruled that Utah’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.

Judge Robert J. Shelby of the United States District Court for the District of Utah issued a ruling saying that the 2004 constitutional amendment Utah voters approved violates same-sex couples’ rights to due process and equal protection under the 14th amendment.  This decision marks a drastic shift toward gay marriage in a conservative state.
