$100,000 Check Challenged

The late University of Maine professor John M. Nickerson left most of his wealth to the university except for his car and two gold watches, which he left in his will to his close friend Daniel A Toto Jr., of Vassalboro.

Toto is now suing the executor of Nickerson’s estate and Key Bank for their refusal to honor a $100,000 check that Toto claims was written to him by Nickerson a week before his death.  Toto was denied the $100,000 after the estate’s representative contacted Key Bank and disputed the authenticity of the signature.
