Brother Sues After Losing Painting in Coin Flip

Richard, 50, and Alan Barrett, 49, are currently locked in an estate battle over the painting “Jug with Lemon.”

After the death of famed Manhattan interior designer David Barrett, his nephews inherited his $5.6 million fortune.  Among his assets was the $45,000 painting by Colombian artist Fernando Botero.  After Richard lost a coin toss for the painting, he filed a lawsuit against Alan, which is holding up payouts to the two executors.  In a voice message to his younger brother, Richard vowed to send his brother and the executors “to the gallows.”
