Nancy Pantoni needed to move her adult special needs son, Dominic, into a residential care facility. After having difficulty getting her son placed in a facility, she had a nonprofit agency named as his guardian to get help with his placement. Dominic was placed in a facility, but now Pantoni is in a legal battle with the guardian of her son, claiming that she has not been allowed to speak with her son over the phone and her in person visits are restricted by his new guardian. This unfortunate story shows the importance of an individual in similar circumstances understanding what guardianship means and how a guardianship hearing works.
